Description:

Greece, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery lekythos of a squat form with a protruding discoid foot beneath an apple-shaped body, a rounded shoulder tapering in to a narrow neck, a funnel mouth with a thick, overhanging rim, and a slender handle arching between neck and shoulder. Beautiful black glaze coats the exterior of the vessel save for the area beneath the foot. Adorning the front of the vessel is an elegant right-facing 'lady of fashion' with gorgeous eyes, a bulbous chin, and a kekryphalos hairstyle behind curly bangs, all between a pair of spiraling volutes. Size: 2.8" W x 4.75" H (7.1 cm x 12.1 cm).
