Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An adorable hand-carved wooden coconut grater in the form of a rabbit on a rectangular plinth. Crouching down, as though about to hop away, the charming creature tucks his hind legs under his bulbous posterior, as he stretches his snout and front legs forward. His darling visage features two slender, almond-shaped eyes and extensive ears that slope down his back. An iron grater projects from his mouth, extending upwards and then bending at a ninety-degree angle. A petite tail and genitalia are displayed at his bottom. Naturally adorned in a warm caramel hue of natural woodgrain and then enveloped in a lustrous burnish, this is a fantastic example of Thai visual culture. Size: 16.125" L x 6.875" W x 8.375" H (41 cm x 17.5 cm x 21.3 cm)
