Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1875 CE. An antique Mexican tin retablo with a poignant painting of Jesus's face donning the crown of thorns with blood dripping from his face, the face against Veronica's white veil that is pierced with arrows and daggers. Upon seeing Christ headed to the Calvary, Veronica pushed through the crowds and cleaned the sweat and blood from his forehead. His visage was imprinted upon her veil and may still be found in Saint Peter's. A wonderful painting with a dramatic yet unusually naturalistic rendering of Jesus's visage! Accordingly, the source of the title stems from"Vera Icon" or "True Icon." Size: 12"L x 9"W. Provenance: Ex-Historia Antiques, Santa Monica, CA All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
