Mexico, oil on tin, dated 1842. Anonymous painter. Translation: "Pedro Martines found himself in the City of Oaxaca gravely ill of a fever that caused epilepsy in the bottom half of his body. With no hope of life he invoked to the miraculous image of Jesus of Amatlan and the Lord of the Stained Glass (window) of the headquarter of Saint Peter and Saint Paul Teposcula and then in a moment recovered his health and to whom gives thanks to God. June 12 of 1847" Pedro Martines, dressed in his best outfit has exited a massive Colonial door and kneels in the street where he prays, consecrating hisgratitude to the two Christs. 8.75" x 6.75" A very handsome and early example!
