Description:

North America, United States, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A great example of antique American folk art in the form of a wooden toy known as a jig doll. The articulated doll is comprised of rectangular torso, with a simple rounded face and two bead eyes attached with nails. Two knobby arms hang freely alongside the torso, and the legs dangle loosely from the bottom. The legs are jointed with a piece of metal forming the knees. A long rod attaches to the back torso of the figure as a handle, so the doll can be made to walk or jig around on its jointed legs, and the oversized feet can clomp about to make a tapping noise. The wood has traces of the green and red paint. Size: 17.5" L x 2" W x 9" H (44.4 cm x 5.1 cm x 22.9 cm)
