Description:

Northern Europe, Anglo-Scandinavian, ca. 600 to 900 C.E. A well-formed forged-iron axe head comprised of a circular socketing shaft with a tab protruding from the bottom end of the butt, a sturdy neck, and a broad blade with a sharpened edge. Smaller blades, such as this, may have been used in battle as a throwing instrument or for hand-to-hand combat. Note the lustrous silvery hues, indicating this axe is of a better quality iron and has Anglo-Saxon origin. The Lucite stand in photos is not included.
