Description:

Northern Europe, probably early to mid-Anglo-Saxon, ca. 6th to 10th century CE. A simple iron double axe head in excellent condition for an iron artifact. One side of the blade is thinner than the other, perhaps evidence for sharpening. An axe like this was primarily a tool rather than a weapon, and may have been buried with its owner. Custom stand included. Size: 5.3" L x 2.25" W (13.5 cm x 5.7 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the US with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages.
