Description:

Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Tlatilco, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A fascinating ancient figure of a seated woman, shown with her legs splayed outward, her hands resting on her inner thighs. She is nude aside from a headdress, with what looks like two plaits of hair resting on her shoulders. Her face is highly stylized, large relative to the size of her body, with long, narrow slits for eyes, a small mouth, and a prominent nose. There are some remaining traces of red and white surface pigment. Tlatilco is known for its unique figurines, sculpted in dynamic poses, and found in great quantities in their tombs. This culture was contemporary with the Olmec, but the artistic style is completely different, and was also not replicated by cultures that came after them. Size: 5.5" W x 8.4" H (14 cm x 21.3 cm)
