Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An elegant low-fired earthenware urn with an unglazed surface and decorative incised patterns. The vessel rests on a concave, annular base and the globular body supports a wide and flared rim. The foot and lower body are adorned with densely abraded and crosshatching patterns. The upper shoulder and neck feature deeply incised spiraling and abstract motifs to create a mesmerizing design. A notched band encircles the vessel's shoulder. A gorgeous and sizable urn! Size: 7.5" Diameter x 8.675" H (19 cm x 22 cm)
