Description:

Ancient Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. This is a large and elegant pottery urn or storage vessel resting on a flared foot, the tall body rising upward to a slanted shoulder, and tall, flared rim. The exterior - from the shoulder to lower midsection above the foot - is incised with textured marks which outline and surround smooth linear motifs encircling the body. The warm orange surface contains dark firing clouds which contrasts beautifully, especially against the textured ground. Size: 8" Diameter x 13" H (20.3 cm x 33 cm)
