Ancient Southeast Asia, Northeastern Thailand, Ban Chiang culture, ca. 3rd to 1st century BCE. A hand-built pottery dish with carinated walls and a thick rim above a tall, broad pedestal foot. Both the upper body and foot are decorated with a register of quadfurcated circles with areas of concentric rings interspersed around them, all presented in applied red-orange pigment. Size: 6.7" W x 7.9" H (17 cm x 20.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repair to small area of foot with light adhesive residue along break lines. Restoration to areas of rim and upper body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions, nicks, and spalls commensurate with age, with fading to pigment in scattered areas, and encrustations across surfaces that are thicker within basin. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
