Description:

Ancient Near East, Middle East, Syria to Northern Iraq, Proto-Literate Period, ca. 3500 to 2500 BCE. A hand-carved stone bead seal of a rectangular form with a perforation drilled lengthwise for suspension. The stamp is bifacial with one side etched with a dog facing left with bordering plants and a geometric shape. The other side contains a snake with a protruding forked tongue surrounded with similar foliage as well. The stone itself is a striking steatite stone with dark green and white veining and would have been striking if worn as a pendant. Custom putty impression included. Size: 1.5" L x 1.19" W (3.8 cm x 3 cm); 2.75" H (7 cm) on included custom stand.
