Description:

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumerian, ca. 3100 to 1200 BCE. An adorable paste glass bull effigy, reclining with the head facing frontally, the horns protruding slightly upward, and the eyes drilled. One horn is chipped but reveals the brilliant sky-blue color of the paste under the weathered surface. This may have functioned as an amulet, the Sumerians believed strongly in magic, and the magical powers of amulets, created to be deterrents against the Evil Eye. Bulls were symbols of masculinity, power, and virility. Size: 1.4" L x 0.3" W x 0.9" H (3.6 cm x 0.8 cm x 2.3 cm); 1.75" H (4.4 cm) on included custom stand.
