South Arabia, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, ca. 2nd century BCE to 2nd century CE. A charming sculpture of a goat hand-carved from creamy-peach hued alabaster and shown seated with all 4 legs bent beneath him. Capped by a pair of large, spiraling horns, the visage of the ancient animal features a round snout, incised nostrils, a slender mouth, and applied pottery eyes with gray pupils. His plump body lays atop attenuated legs, while a large, tab-like tail, which is incised with abstract geometric motifs, extends from his posterior. Size: 5" L x 2" W x 3.5" H (12.7 cm x 5.1 cm x 8.9 cm)

- Condition: Head reattached with break line visible. Losses to horns and periphery of base. Some light abrasions and softening of detail, commensurate with age. Otherwise, very nice.
