Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Ancient Near East, Sasanian (Sassanian, Sasanid) Empire, ca. 3rd to 7th century CE. A striking example of glass artistry from the last Persian empire before the rise of Islam during a crucial period in history. The body of the vessel - comprised of semi-translucent turquoise-hued glass - presents a globular form with a squat neck rising to a flared rim with a rolled lip. A trio of slightly-concave roundels of a similar color are applied to the exterior of the body and create an attractive, minimalist pattern, and the entire vessel sits upon a base made from a slightly larger roundel of rich aqua coloration. This type of vessel would have been used to hold perfume or other precious liquids that would have otherwise been subject to evaporation. Size: 2" W x 2.375" H (5.1 cm x 6 cm).
