Description:

Roman Holy Land, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A carved bone pyxis, most likely made from cow bone, with a pretty, elongated, columnar form and multiple cut rings around the surface, especially on the lower part. The piece was found in Hebron, in the West Bank, in 1898. The pyxis was used to hold treasured items, and this example probably once had a matching lid. Size: 1.4" W x 3.5" H (3.6 cm x 8.9 cm)
