Description:

**Originally Listed At $175**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. This is a unique pendant comprised of cobalt Roman glass set in a modern sterling silver bezel and strung as a wearable necklace on a modern cord with a lobster clasp. The bezel lip encloses a rectangular shaped piece of a nearly black hue, but when illuminated the semi-opaque surface reveals a deep cobalt blue. The shard likely came from a discarded vessel and over the ages a silvery iridescence has developed across the textured and buckled surface. A thin curved piece protruding from one face- perhaps the remains of a handle or decoration. Size (pendant): 2" L x 1" W (5.1 cm x 2.5 cm); (cord): 21" L (53.3 cm); sterling silver quality: 92.5% or higher; weight: 25.3 grams
