Description:

Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 3rd centuries CE. A solid bronze statuette depicting a prancing horse upon an integral plinth, finely cast via the lost wax (cire perdue) process, presenting a clear understanding of the animal's anatomy, a keen sense of movement as the horse's head looks toward the left with its neck arched in that direction, and one front leg is raised off the ground. Beyond this are the details, that meticulously delineated mane and beautifully defined musculature. Lovely patina. Wood block mount. Size: horse itself measures 1.625" L x .5" W x 1.875" H (4.1 cm x 1.3 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) with mount
