Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE; Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate Period to Ptolemaic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 30 BCE. A collection of ancient artifacts, including Roman bronze pieces and wearable earrings crafted from Egyptian faience beads. This lot features a fragment of a cast bronze fibula, a hooked silver-copper alloy wire with a stone bead affixed to the tip - likely an ornament or piece of jewelry- and a bronze openwork panel shaped like a vine, possibly a pendant or armor attachment, though it also resembles a decorative hinge. The earrings are made from ancient Egyptian faience beads, carefully restrung on modern silver wire. In ancient Egypt, faience beads were frequently strung together to create intricate jewelry, such as collars for mummies or offerings in temples. Over time, the organic threads binding these beads decayed; upon discovery, the beads are often collected and restrung to preserve their historical beauty in wearable forms. Size of earrings w/ wire: 1" L x 0.125" W (2.5 cm x 0.3 cm)

Provenance: private Kihei, Hawaii, USA collection, openwork purchased from Ancient Caesar Numismatics; rest purchased from Arte Primitivo, New York, New York, USA, February 26, 2014
