Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A modern necklace comprised of ancient Roman beads. Most are white shell interspersed with deep blue glass beads. The Romans made glass a deep blue by adding cobalt, and their skills are on display here, with a variety of roughly cylindrical beads, some of which have deep purple or sparkling iridescence. A wonderful way to wear ancient artifacts. Size: 20" L (50.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Private Florida collection acquired in the 1980's
