Rome, ca. 4th century CE. This is a beautiful high karat gold cross masterfully done with fine filagree, inset with a garnet cabochon. This cross represents an important moment for Christianity, when it became a legitimized religion within the Roman Empire and was able to begin projecting a wealthy symbology. As more and more wealthy Romans converted, beautiful items like this one were produced. weighing 4.8 grams.
