Pre-Columbian, Peru, Salinar, ca. 300 BCE to 200 CE. A unique terracotta whistling vessel with an anthropomorphic head serving as the front lobe, and a cylindrical bowl with a slightly flared rim at the rear. Both are joined via a tubular section at the lower end and an arched strap handle above. The visage of the piece is quite expressive, presenting almond-shaped eyes with pierced pupils and raised outer corners, a protruding aquiline nose, and an open mouth above a jutting chin. He wears round ear ornaments with pierced markings arranged in a floral or stellar design as well as a striated hairdo. Expressive and musical! Size: 8.75" L x 5.75" W (22.2 cm x 14.6 cm); 5.375" H (13.7 cm) on included custom stand.
