Description:

Near East, Persia (Iran), ca. 12th century CE. A thin-walled, 96% silver bowl decorated with beautiful repousse imagery, including a stylized bearded head, shown in profile, in tondo, and a series of birds within clouds around the interior walls. The bowl is further decorated with a studded, dotted texture around its walls, creating a busy surface so that the motifs seem separated by their smooth backgrounds. Birds are an incredibly popular Persian motif, and seem to have been stylistically beloved by the people of medieval Persia purely for aesthetic reasons. Size: 6.05" W x 2.2" H (15.4 cm x 5.6 cm); 159.2 grams
