Description:

Ancient Near East, Middle East, Syria to Northern Iraq, Proto-Literate Period, ca. 3500 to 3000 BCE. A hand-carved greenstone seal with a circular profile and abstract motif engraved across the face. The stamp face features a minimalistic quadruped with a simple snake above. A vertical hole is hand drilled through the back for suspension. Included is a clay impression of the seal. Size: 1.25" Diameter x .5" W (3.2 cm x 1.3 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
