Description:

Ancient Near East, The Levant, Proto-Literate Period, ca. 3500 to 2500 BCE. A sizable hand-carved stone bead seal of a rectangular form with a perforation drilled lengthwise for suspension. Incised on one side is a bird with long legs and a crested head surrounded by vine-like foliage. The reverse shows a man riding on the back of an animal with a long neck, perhaps a camel. The bifacial stamp is carved from a mottled black and brown stone. Included are two custom putty impressions of the both sides of the seal. Size: 1.75" L x 1.5" W (4.4 cm x 3.8 cm); 2.675" H (6.8 cm) on included custom stand.
