Description:

Ancient Near East, Iron Age, ca. 900 to 600 BCE. A fine leaded bronze sculpture of a zebu bull cast using the lost-wax - or cire perdue - process to present a youthful appearance with a slender body supported by 4 strong legs atop cloven hooves. A characteristic hump protrudes from his back as his thick neck stretches forward displaying a naturalistic visage with a long snout, an open mouth, pierced eyes, delineated nostrils, and petaloid ears, all capped by a pair of curved horns. A short tail projects from his posterior, just above his bowed hind legs and prominent genitalia. Size: 2.5" L x 0.8" W x 2" H (6.4 cm x 2 cm x 5.1 cm)
