Near Eastern, Northwestern Iran / Turkey, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A high quality silver pin with a round finial shaped like an aryballos vessel, or a poppy pod, the petite side handles are pierced and perhaps once strung with additional ornamentation. The pin is cast via the lost wax process using 81.6% to 90% silver. Elaborate fashion pieces like this example were used to fasten clothes or hair, and this lovely example was a status symbol amongst those who could afford their production and materials.
