**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran and around the Caspian Sea, Luristan or Marlik culture, ca. 1200 to 600 BCE. A forged-bronze spear head with a petaloid blade surmounting a lengthy socketing shaft. The shaft is reinforced with six slender ringlets or astragals that tighten the shaft around an inserted pole in place of bindings. The blade and shoulder are incised with shallow linear motifs that create a feathered presentation visible through the layers of dark green and brown patina. Size: 1.125" W x 8.4" H (2.9 cm x 21.3 cm)

  • Condition: Small area of loss to bottom of socketing shaft as shown. Slight separation to seam of socketing shaft, with bending to upper half of blade, smooth encrustations, and minor softening to some incised details. Great patina throughout.
