Description:

Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A beautiful example of a leaded bronze mirror, its surface aged to a fascinating intermixed russet, deep purple, turquoise, pale green, and grey-white patina, a result of the mixture of metals in its alloy. The mirror form is simple, a round disc with a short, narrow handle that likely once was set into a larger handle made of organic material like ivory or bone. Due to the lead content of the alloy, the mirror is surprisingly heavy, with a pleasing weight in the hand. Size: 4.45" W x 6.2" H (11.3 cm x 15.7 cm); 7" H (17.8 cm) on included custom stand.
