Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A set of 2 cast-copper spear butts from ancient Luristan, each with a thick body and a pierced socketing shaft. The first spear butt still retains its sharpened spike along the bottom and features a thick shaft rim with a protruding loop. The larger spear butt exhibits incised striations around the shaft rim and has a blunted end where the spike was present at one time. Both weapons are enveloped with layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of green and brown. Size of largest: 11.4" L x 1.1" W (29 cm x 2.8 cm)

  • Condition: Largest with loss to spike tip as shown; smaller spear butt is intact. Each with light abrasions commensurate with age and slight bending to overall form, otherwise in great condition. Nice patina throughout.
