Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran / Turkey, Luristan, late Bronze to early Iron Age, ca. 2000 to 1000 BCE. A bronze short sword or dagger made using the lost wax casting technique with a slender blade and rectangular guard, all below a wavy and flanged hilt. The blade was cast separately from the handle and then attached, the lip surrounding the handle would have undoubtedly held an inlay perhaps of bone, wood, or some other perishable material to create its full grip. Short swords like this were not just made to be used in battle, but instead to show status in the grave or as votive weapons to be deposits in hoards. Size: 11.8" L x 1.5" W (30 cm x 3.8 cm)
