Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran / Turkey, Luristan, late Bronze to Iron Age, ca. 2000 to 600 BCE. A pair of cast bronze and copper spears from ancient Luristan. One features a narrow tang with a curved button end, a gently tapered neck and lanceolate blade. The other has a very slender profile with a thick neck and tang. Spear blades like this could be mounted atop wooden poles for use in guard duty or on the field of battle, or they may have served a ritualistic function such as a burial good for a warrior. Size of larger one: 12.5" L x 1.3" W (31.8 cm x 3.3 cm)
