Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A set of 2 cast-bronze axe heads, each with a thick socketing shaft and a vertical blade head. The shafts of each are adorned with one or more raised bars that perhaps mimic horns, and the blade heads are strong and sturdy enough for countless blows. Layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of green, russet, and brown have formed across the weapons. Size of largest: 4.8" L x 1" W x 2.3" H (12.2 cm x 2.5 cm x 5.8 cm)
