Ancient Near East, Iran, Luristan, ca. 13th to 6th century BCE. A remarkable pair of bronze axes from ancient Luristan, each displaying a socketing hole and a long blade that flares out to a curved cutting edge. Enveloped in a rich green patina, the more petite weapon features a tubular socketing hole with collars around the sloping top rim and extended bottom rims, as well as 2 nodules protruding from the poll. Alternatively, the larger axe head presents an ovoid eye and 2 raised ridges encircling the bottom lug. Size of larger axe: 5.25" L x 1.25" W x 1.6" H (13.3 cm x 3.2 cm x 4.1 cm)

  • Condition: Chips and abrasions to larger blade and old loss to socketing neck. The green blade is nearly perfectly intact. Both have been polished in recent times, but have good remains of dark patina and toning.
