Description:

Classical World, Italy, Etruria, ca. late 7th to 6th century BCE; Greece, Magna Graecia, southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A lovely trio of ancient pottery vessels: an Etruscan kyathos, a Greek Apulian pyxis, and a Greek Apulian olpe. First, the blackware kyathos displays a cup-shaped body with a large, flared rim, and an upwards sweeping handle adorned with a maskette at the base and a tiered knob at the top of the arch, all sitting upon a ring-form foot. Also covered in black glaze, the pyxis presents concave walls, a projecting lower rim with incised diagonal striations, a folded upper rim, and a tall foot. Last, the olpe exhibits a bulbous body with an attenuated neck, and a ribbon-form handle, all enveloped in black glaze and embellished by pale orange ray and laurel motifs. Size of largest (kyathos): 5" W x 4.6" H (12.7 cm x 11.7 cm)
