Description:

Native American, Arctic, Inuit or Aleut peoples, ca. 1500 to 1800 CE. A fine cast-copper spear head with an extremely long attachment tang. The petaloid blade head has a very shallow midrib running along both faces, sharpened blade edges, and a pointed tip. Spear heads like this were attached to lengthy wooden poles and used as harpoons when hunting whales or walruses and were invaluable to ancient Inuit hunters. Wonderful layers of green and russet patina envelop the entire tool, and the original golden-brown color of the copper is visible in scattered areas. Size: 1.4" W x 13.8" H (3.6 cm x 35.1 cm).
