Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Neolithic Period, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A rare example of early ceramic technology from southeast Asia, this is an incised vessel with fish-hook style projections around its sunken shoulder. The round-bodied vessel has a short neck and flaring, thin rim. The shoulder's incised motif resembles thatching. The vessel once stood on four short feet, the remains of which are still visible here. Indonesian Neolithic technology was influenced largely by trade with Taiwan and Vietnam/Thailand, but they created their own unique pottery tradition. Size: 5.5" W x 5.25" H (14 cm x 13.3 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, purchaed in Bali, Indonesia, in the 1980s
