Description:

Ancient Near East, Elamite, Bronze Age, 2nd millennium BCE. A fantastic cast leaded copper cosmetic vessel and applicator decorated with zoomorphic forms. The jar is hollow-formed with a rounded body, a cylidrical neck and a everted rim. From the body protrudes three rams' heads with curled horns. The applicator tool is a long rod with a boar perched on the top as a handle. Animals were a popular motif in Elamite culture and this cosmetic jar pays homage to animals that symbolize strength and virility. This jar may have contained khol for cosmetic purposes and the applicator stick would have been used to apply the makeup onto the eyelids. Size: 2.25" W x 6.375" H (5.7 cm x 16.2 cm); 7.4" H (18.8 cm) on included custom stand.
