Ancient Central Asia, Bactria-Margania Archeological Complex, ca. ca. late 3rd–early 2nd millennium BCE; Ancient Near East, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 650 BCE. A fascinating pair of copper axe heads: one from Bactria and the other from Luristan. First, the Bactrian axe presents a crescent-shaped blade that projects from a tubular socket with a drooping fin hanging off the back side. Alternatively, the weapon from Luristan exhibits a flaring blade with a curved edge, an ovoid eye, and a crescent-shaped butt. Size of long axe: 4.75" L x 1" W x 2" H (12.1 cm x 2.5 cm x 5.1 cm)

  • Condition: Bactrian axe has heavy oxidation and pitting with losses to surface layers. Luristan blade has age commensurate wear, but otherwise intact. Heavy patina and mineral deposits to both.
