Description:

East Asia, China, Warring States Period, ca. 475 to 221 BCE. A collection of 13 ancient bronze arrow heads with thick, trilobate (three-bladed) forms, some with the remains of short tangs for mounting to a wood shaft. This projectile shape enhanced the penetrative force through armor and flesh, and bronze was primarily used until the Han dynasty (206 BCE to 220 CE) when iron began to replace bronze weaponry. Green patina and oxidation across the surfaces from years spent exposed to the elements - perhaps these were scattered on a battlefield or deposited in a tomb. Size: 1.5" L x 0.5" W (3.8 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection, acquired before 2003
