East Asia, China, Neolithic Period, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A lovely ceramic jar with a flat base, bulbous body with a widened midsection, a rounded shoulder which leads to an inward-curving neck, a flared rim, and a pair of applied strap handles. The interior of the rim boasts a painted register of linear and bulb-form motifs in dark red pigment. The exterior of the body exhibits a dense series of linear, circular, and zigzag patterns in dark-red and black colors.
