Description:

Ancient Near East, Canaan, the Levant, Middle Bronze Age II, ca. 1900 to 1550 BCE. A pair of copper axe heads, both cast with an ovoid socketing hole, a grooved support notch, and a slender blade which gradually tapers to a vertical edge. Their design indicates they were used for ritual or to shape softer materials like wood or mud bricks, rather than for use in battle, and this style is similar to those known from Tel Megiddo, an important archaeological site from the ancient Near East. Size of larger axe: 5.25" L x 0.75" W x 1" H (13.3 cm x 1.9 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Everett, Massachusetts, USA collection; ex-Artemis Gallery purchased August 25th, 2016 & March 26th 2018; ex-John Piscopo estate, San Diego, California, USA
