Description:

Eastern / Central Europe, Celtic Hallstatt / La Tene Culture or Greece, Geometric / Archaic Period, ca. 800 to 500 BCE. A pair of large bronze fibulae made from thick bronze pieces, hammered and shaped into arching or bow shapes, with wires wrapped around themselves and coiled heads. Ornate fibulae such as these were often buried with their owners to accompany them in the afterlife. Size: 6.5" L x 2" W (16.5 cm x 5.1 cm)

    Condition:
  • Missing attachment pins on both, and losses to the coils on one. Surfaces are cleaned, but retain a green patina and some mineral deposits. Both are a substantial size and well preserved.
