Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC) (Oxus Civilization), Bronze Age, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A idol figure hand-carved from dark gray stone with an angular body and a recessed cavity atop the neck meant to accommodate a removable head. The body is incised with striped triangles representing leaves, and the planar base creates a stable ground. Most excavated examples of this figure type come from sites in Margiana in southern Turkmenistan, a possible center of their production.
