Description:

**Originally Listed At $400**

Central Asia, Bactria-Margiana (BMAC) (Oxus Civilization), Bronze Age, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A fascinating head from an idol figure of a type found in regions of what is now Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, providing a hint to the religious beliefs of the ancients who flourished there over three thousand years ago. The head itself is carved from a milky-white marble, with a face dominated by large, closed, almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose, a gently smiling mouth, and protruding ovoid ears. The neck extends below and presents a narrower contiguous plug form, suggesting that it was made to be inserted into the torso of a larger figure. Size: .625" in diameter at widest point x .875" H (1.6 cm x 2.2 cm)
