Ancient Near East, Anatolia, Turkey, ca. 3rd millennium BCE. A lovely blackware jar presenting an elegant form adorned at the shoulder with 2 pairs of confronting ibexes or stags. Crowned by huge, arching horns, each of the stylized animals presents a slender body, straight legs, an elongated neck, an extended snout, and a petite tail. Meanwhile, the vessel itself boasts a bulbous, ribbed body, a sloped shoulder, a conical neck, an annular rim, and twin, tubular handles connecting rim to shoulder, all sitting upon a ring-form base with incised dashes along the periphery. Size: 6.3" Diameter x 5.8" H (16 cm x 14.7 cm)
