Description:

Ancient Asia Minor, Anatolia, ca. 3200 to 2300 BCE. A lovely hand-built pottery female fertility idol with a slightly concave base, a stocky body with a pair of projecting nubbin arms, a tapered neck, and a discoid head. The body is decorated with a raised "V" across the chest as well as incised linear motifs along the base, head, and verso. The stylized head boasts a pair of impressed eyes within deep eye wells, a prominent pinched nose, and a broad headdress incised with radiating vertical striations. Size: 2.4" W x 4.6" H (6.1 cm x 11.7 cm).

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.

  • Condition: Head reattached to neck with light adhesive residue and earthen stabilization material along break line. Minor nicks and abrasions to body and head, with softening to some incised details, and light encrustations. Nice earthen deposits and traces of original pigmentation throughout. Two TL drill holes: beneath base and just below neck on verso.
