Ancient Near East / Ancient Mediterranean, Amlash culture, ca. 1400 to 1000 BCE. A wheel-thrown redware pottery water bottle with a carinated, spool-form body, a tapering neck, and a tall, flared spout with an incised handle on the verso. Remains of linear patterns in red-orange and dark red pigment are visible around the spout and body and imbue the vessel with a personalized presentation. Size: 7.2" Diameter x 10.4" H (18.3 cm x 26.4 cm)

Provenance: private Greenwood Village, Colorado, USA collection, via inheritance; Leota Furlong Agett Persian Pottery collection, acquired in Tehran, Iran in the early 1960s

  • Condition: Repair and restoration to midsection of body, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Age-commensurate nicks and abrasions, with light fading to pigment and painted decorations, and chips around rim and midsection. Great size and light remains of painted decorations.
