Description:

Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Amlash, ca. mid to late 3rd millennium BCE. A hand-built and stone-burnished pottery pitcher of impressive size exhibiting a planar base, an apple-shaped body with a protruding shoulder, and a flared rim above a perforated handle. The shoulder is adorned with densely incised latticework patterns. Extending off of one side is a semicircular spout that connects to part of the rim and enables the contents held inside to be poured with ease. Amlash vessels were buried in large megalithic tombs, built by part of the Marlik culture. Despite its proximity to the large Mesopotamian cultures, the geographical barrier of the high Zagros and Elburz Mountains kept it relatively isolated and a very unique ceramic tradition developed there. Size: 12.5" L x 8" W x 6.7" H (31.8 cm x 20.3 cm x 17 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report will accompany the item upon purchase.
