Description:

North America, southern Colorado Plateau, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), ca. 1030 to 1150 CE. A beautiful example of Puerco Black-on-Red pottery, a distinctive style made during the early part of the Ancestral Puebloan ascendancy over the Four Corners region. This is a mug with a rounded, apple-shaped lower body, a strap handle that sits low on the body, and a delicate flared lip. The exterior surface is an earthy red, with finely painted black line decoration creating repeated claw-like shapes around the lower and central body. This unique vessel would have been made by a woman, as they were the potters in this culture, and she would have designed the motifs on it to have personal meaning. Size: 5" W x 3.55" H (12.7 cm x 9 cm)
